It starts with communication strategy. Who are you trying to reach, and what do you want them to do? This must be kept in mind always. Otherwise, your efforts will probably be about as effective as dropping flyers out of an airplane.

Graphic design plays a key part in communicating your message. Colors and photos create emotional responses in people, whether we want them to or not. Use this to your advantage! We'll help you identify the feelings you want to create, and use the graphics to help motivate people toward the action you want (remember my first question?).

Setting the mood is not enough. Many wise people have said "content is king." It's true -- your content is what draws people to your site again and again. It's how search engines find you. But you also need to help people browse it by carefully considering your information architecture and navigation. The back-end needs to be configured intelligently, so you can write, edit and move on to the other parts of your work.
